I’m a writer, theatre maker and storyteller from Holyhead. I was delighted when Ports, Past and Present offered Holyhead and other port towns a chance to reflect on their distinctive nature, with transient and permanent residents all coexisting to create a place of purpose, beauty and industry. My work was led by community groups and individuals in the town, isolating stories from its maritime history and also exploring more personal accounts of the sea’s healing properties.
Rwy'n awdur, gwneuthurwr theatr a storïwr o Gaergybi. Roeddwn i wrth fy modd pan gynigiodd Porthladdoedd, Ddoe a Heddiw gyfle i Gaergybi a threfi porthladd eraill fyfyrio ar eu natur unigryw, gyda thrigolion dros dro a pharhaol i gyd yn cydfodoli i greu man llawn pwrpas, harddwch a diwydrwydd. Cafodd fy ngwaith innau ei arwain gan grwpiau cymunedol ac unigolion yn y dref, gan amlygu straeon o'i hanes morwrol a hefyd archwilio disgrifiadau mwy personol am nodweddion iachaol y môr.
From reflections on Holyhead’s mountain, Mynydd Twr, to a sharp-tongued mermaid who objects to human rubbish in her sea, Gillian’s work explores local and environmental issues in witty and engaging ways.
O fyfyrdodau ar fynydd Caergybi, Mynydd Twr, i fôr-forwyn llym ei thafod sy'n gwrthwynebu sbwriel dynol yn ei môr, mae gwaith Gilly yn archwilio materion lleol ac amgylcheddol mewn ffyrdd ffraeth a diddorol.
