Ports, Past and Present Exhibitions: Creative Connections across the Irish Sea
The previous exhibition at Theatr Gwaun in September proved unsuitable for the display of Zillah Bowes’ large photographic prints of locations and views from Goodwick Harbour Village. The three large works and her poem ‘Jacob’s Ladder’, shown in previous exhibitions, were installed in the upstairs gallery of West Wales Arts Centre in Fishguard in March 2023, along with a further series of three images, All the Sea View Sheds, which had not been seen before.
Zillah introduced her work and reflected on her experience of working in Fishguard and Goodwick in an opening for the show on 24 March.
On the following day Jon Gower launched his new book The Turning Tide: A Biography of the Irish Sea, and a booklet for Ports, Past and Present: A Flock of Words: Explorations of the Irish Sea. This was followed by a performance of We Have Always Been Your Harbour by Peter Murphy and Dan Comerford, with a new and powerful musical score.
